After liaison with the police it was decided to call in a coastguard flanking team from Millom to help in the search area from Bardsea in the south to Greenodd to the North. The Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team were also requested to search inland areas including the Ulverston Canal. Rescue 131 was in the lakes and was tasked to help in the search. As the search continued the initial clothing description given was discounted as the clothes the male was thought to be wearing were found in the man's house.
The helicopter searched the area from Greenodd South to Bardsea including the sands where the tide had ebbed off and Chapel Island just off Priory Point, it also did a sweep of the eastern area of coast on the Holker / Sandgate side . After a detailed search in conjunction with police support, the search was called off on the coastal area, MRT volunteers continued to search the inland areas.
