Within this site you will find information about The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), what we do , and also meet the Walney, Millom and Bootle Coastguard Rescue Teams, the equipment we use and details of the calls (shouts) to which we respond. You can even see a map of the area with the location of our shouts. You can also see which other SAR Units we work with, and the location of those teams.

Location: Drigg SAR Units:Millom CRT, RN EOD Team
Job: 21 OOL - Ordnance on Land - Prior to meeting with the EOD Team,
Millom CRT were alerted to another suspect device on theforeshore at
Drigg. The item was found by young Benn and his dad whilst out walking
on the beach. The team attended and with the help of Benn and his Dad,
located and marked the item prior to the arrival of the EOD Team.
As a Category 1 responder under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 the Coastguard Rescue Service may be called upon to deploy and assist with an inland water rescue or flood in areas where HM Coastguard
does not have primary coordination responsibility.
The number of flood incidents has increased in recent years, and HM Coastguard must be in a position to respond to these incidents by providing a rescue capability including responding to inland incidents, as seen at the recent floods in Cockermouth, Backbarrow, Ulverston and Carlisle.
